Changed Jobs Over and Over? Let’s Find You a Real Career Path for Your Life

A Real Career Path and New Direction for your Life? It’s possible!

Are you not happy with your current job? Do you usually look for something that will make you happy with your work? Are you worried about being one of the laid off employees? If you are thinking of a career change, read this article to know about the real career path you deserve.

Most of the time, you will continue to search for satisfaction with your work. You want to do something that will make you happy and contented. Sometimes you search for something that is flexible – there’s balance between career and raising a family. It would be great if it’s as if you are not working because you are enjoying what you do.

If you feel empty and you realize that you are searching for something else in your career, probably, all you need is to make an assessment of your career plans and goals. Perhaps you need more career clarity.  However, you have to ask yourself – “Am I ready for any career shift?” “Am I ready to take another challenge?” Keep in mind that when you decide to face another challenge in your career, you have to bring with you a positive mental outlook and healthy perspective.

If you want a real career path to be made available, you have to know how to overcome your fears, anxieties, doubts and insecurities. Below are some tips that you might want to consider to make a real career path possible.

1)      You have to commit to making that career change. It is very important that you have a mindset that you are committed to find a career that fits you. Ask questions in order for you to know where you really want to be and what you really want to do with your life. It is the best time to ask yourself questions.

2)      Do some research so you would know what to ask yourself. Picture the scenario: you have been an accountant for a decade already. Then, you realized that you want to be a chef. It is a total shift of gear for you. How do you know whether becoming a chef would mean career fulfillment? You may consult some career experts who can guide you what your dreams and goals for your career. Check the different websites of your desired industry. It is good to take personality tests online to help you discover things about yourself.

3)      You have to learn to face challenges and obstacles that will come to your way. Your most desired career will not be served to you in a silver platter nor will happen in just a snap of your fingers. To be successful in looking for your real career path, you need to encounter a lot of things. Some people want to shift career but situations stop them from pushing through.

4)      You have to get support from people you care and look up to. Coaching and mentoring are vital when you are pursuing a new career. Your mentors could help you plan your career strategies, they can be the last person who will remain positive despite the challenges, and they are the ones who will push you to the limits.

Please fill out the contact form to the right if I can be of assistance or call me at (403) 351 – 1514.

Find A New Job

Looking for a new job? Stop looking and start identifying.

Stop Looking for a New Job until You Identify Your New Life Direction!

Are you always looking for a new job that will be an answer to your need for career satisfaction? Are you in constant search of a job that will answer your needs and wants? Probably you need to stop trying to find a new job until you identify your new direction in life.

This article will give you ways to keep you moving into a new direction in life — for you to find a new job that will make you content and happier.

1)      Formulate a much clearer picture of what you want in life. A boat that sails without any destination will never reach the shore. You need to have an end in mind. Once you have a vision of where you are going, you will know what direction you need to take. For instance, to find a new job you need to have a vivid picture where you are and who you are. If you are an architect but then, you are bored and want to apply your creativity through other ways such as cooking or photography, you have to make sure that what you are aiming for is to be an excellent chef or photographer.

2)      You might for a short term start from scratch or at the bottom of the pile. Starting from the bottom has its benefits as well. You will learn the nitty gritty of things and when the time comes that you are in-charge, you can always coach your team and know what to do in all aspects of the business or organization.

3)      You have to focus on “what” and not on “how.” Do not worry too much on how you can accomplish things. If you do, you will never know where to start and you will never begin taking small actions. If you do worry about the future, you will be just wasting your time and energy. Devote your time where you need it the most. When you know what you want in your life, take small steps to reach your aspirations and see how it will take itself on its own.

4)      To find a new job, you have to avoid in your life, as well in general, any negative self talk. Pessimism will only hinder you. You will not be able to do anything because you are so afraid to try and do something

5)      You have to let possibilities come to you. Do not push yourself away from the world. If you do, you will be missing out on the amazing things happening around you. Let your blank slate be written with wonderful things.  I call this living in the land of possibility.

6)      Give yourself the freedom you deserve. Let go of things you do not need in your life. Do not hold on to something which is not meant for you. When you unload the burdens, you are letting beautiful thing happen to you. You should allow your life to live the way you want it – a happy life.

Before you find a new job, it is highly advisable that you search for a new life direction. You need to know first what path you are taking. It is very difficult to look for a job when you do not know where your life is heading.

If I can be of service to you, please head over to my contact page and email or call me with your most pressing question related to your new career or job search.

How Do You Know – What’s Next for Your Career?

You work hard each day building your career and then one day you wake up to find your career direction has changed.  You end up asking yourself, “Now what do I do next in my career?”.

I recently viewed an excellent movie titled, How Do You Know, starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd,

How Do You Know - www.imdb.com/title/tt1341188/

How Do You Know - What's Next for your Career?

Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson.  The movie showcases Reese as Lisa a USA softball team all star athlete who’s career prime has ended.  She ends up not making the team after several consecutive years of all star victories on her resume.  Lisa is left to evaluate her new life direction and what to do next for her career.

At one pivotal point in the movie, Lisa sees a counselor for some career advice in order to help her find a new life direction after life as an elite athlete.  The dialogue from the scene is as follows:

Lisa:  Can I ask you just one stupid question?

Counselor:  There’s no such thing.

Lisa:  So I was just wondering if there’s one general thing that you’ve found over the years to be generally true in a general way, that would help anyone, with any situation?

Counselor:  That’s a great question.  Yes. I’d say, “Figure out what you want and learn how to ask for it.”

Lisa:  Okay. (she turns to leave the office and turns back suddenly).  Those are both really hard.

Counselor:  Yes, but you came here, which was hard for you, and you’re leaving right away, also hard…so, you’re tougher than you think you are right now.

Lisa: Thanks. I appreciate that.

Counselor:  Good luck.

Lisa:  I can see why people do this.

Counselor:  Thanks.

“Figure out what you want and learn how to ask for it.”

I agree that this is often the case for all of us who at one point in time have or are presently struggling with uncertainty in our career or life direction.  How do you ask for something when you don’t know what to ask for?

Clients who come to us at Now What? are trying to figure out the what and why before they start asking for their wants.  Spending time identifying the best direction to take your life is a critical and worthy endeavour. It is a process that relies on trusting and interpreting your intuitive self.  However, too many people try and do it alone.  They never reach out for help along the journey.

I normally work with three types of people that I categorize as:

  1. The Frustrated
  2. The Comfortably Curious
  3. Life Changed

Each person has different levels of needs that must be addressed in helping them figure out their new life direction in under 90 days.  That is what is great about the Now What? Process.  It is a guided, structured and proven process to help you identify your next career step or path in life.  Once you identify “it”, you can begin asking for what you want and need as our Counselor above so gracefully said it.

If you feel miserable, despondent or stuck in your current career path, then you fall into the “Frustrated” category above.  If you go to work with great satisfaction, but often wonder “what if” when you drive by that hospital, police car or community shelter, then you may “Comfortably Curious”.  Perhaps, life threw you a 90 degree change along your path that has left you wondering what’s next for you.

If you relate to any of the above descriptions, I implore you to delve deeper into figuring out the options for your new life direction.  I would be honoured to assist you in this process.  Please use the contact form to the right to contact me with any questions or to share your story.

Be like Lisa – step out into the unknown and find out why people turn to Now What? to help them identify their new life direction.  Most people working with an authorized facilitator can achieve this in under 90 days.  Some people identify a specific path and need a little longer for research.  In the end, you will be more satisfied having a plan that you can execute with confidence.

Midlife Career Change equals a New Life Direction!

How to Transition Through Your Midlife Career Change:

Do you want to reinvent yourself because your career is in transition? Is it because:

1)      You are not happy and satisfied with your current job?

2)      You were one of the affected employees of the global crisis – you lost your job?

3)      You want to live your dream career?

4)      You do not know where to start?

You are probably experiencing a midlife career change. Have you been thinking the following?

1)      I hope I can fast track the days to weekend again.

2)      I hate Monday mornings.

3)      I’m dragging myself to work.

4)      I cannot wait to give my resignation letter to my boss.

5)      I cannot wait to see how happy I am.

Nowadays, you will see only a few people who have stayed in the company until their retirement age. Most of the newly graduates seek different challenges. They do not stick with their current job path that long. They try and explore different things.

Your dreams and aspirations in life when you are at 20 will be most likely different when you reach midlife. You have different priorities and you see things from a different perspective.

You should not be afraid to make a change in your career. You should even be grateful for that. In order for you to accept your career change, make your transition as smooth as possible and without ruining your life. It can be done by following the career change steps listed below.

Step One: Ask yourself, “what do I really want in life?” Is it because of the following?

a.       You want to have higher salary.

b.      You like to be challenged all the time.

c.       You want a job that is always on call.

d.      You want a job wherein you can help other people solve their problems.

e.       You want to be respected and looked up to in your job.

f.       You want to freely do anything at your time.

g.      You want to have a stable income.

h.      You want job that you can juggle career and family life.

i.        You want a job that is very accessible to your home.

j.        You want to work alone and feel being independent.

k.      You need security.

l.        You want time to spend with your family and what you love doing.

After this self-evaluation, you may not know what career path you want to pursue.  Remember that in changing your career, you should look where your heart is and be passionate.  Many people I work with get to this point and give up.  They often feel that a new life direction is not possible for them never mind a career change.  But it is possible when you have someone who cares about helping you identify what’s best for you by helping you tap into your intuitive abilities.

Step Two: Do not allow yourself any negativity as in the case of the following:

a.       You are too scared to try new things.

b.      You are afraid that it will affect your family in a negative way.

c.       You do not want to lose your job security.

d.      You think that you are too old to take on risky challenges.

e.       It’s hard to start over when you are 40 or 50 years old.

Step Three: Do research before embracing a career change. Search for possible choices of career. Check the different job related websites. Ask the experts in the said industry for tips and pointers. Ask if you need to accomplish any requirements of entry into a specific position or career path.

Step Four: Make some actions. Just small steps will do. Do not let time or anything hinder you from doing a shift in your career. Make your dream job come true because it is only you who can accomplish that.

If you have arrived here, it means that you need to make a shift sooner than later in your life.  The biggest question most likely on your mind is…now what do I do?  Our Now What? coaching process may be a solution to help you cut through the many doubts and questions you have in order to realize your new life direction sooner rather than later.

This is Not the Career Advice Your High School Guidance Counselor Gave You!

Do you remember the career advice your high school guidance counselor gave you?

Probably they have told you that since you have an eye for art, you will be a great architect. Or if you are good in numbers, you can be a great mathematician. In reality, there are people who are good at something but do not have a career related to what they are good at but they have a career related to what they love to do.

Nowadays, people build their own careers. If you are one of the people who still do not know what to take on as their career path, continue reading to get some career advice.

This article is for everyone. Whether you are just starting your career or if you have wonderful working experiences already, the items on career advice below will be helpful.

1) Learning is part of your daily life. Do not ever stop learning. Everything changes. You have to keep up with the changing world. Sometimes what you learned in the past is no longer applicable which means you have to upgrade your skills and knowledge. For instance, you may be adept with a certain type of computer software but you may not be able to use software available in the market today. If you want to have a better future in your career, you have to regularly update your knowledge and skills.

2) Learn more by asking and listening. If you seek knowledge, you need to ask and listen. It is not enough that you just take whatever is in front of you. It is better to ask or clarify things if there are matters that are unclear to you. When learning, it is important that you listen. For instance, you can listen to a higher-up who has vast experience within the industry.

3) Another career advice is that, you should do your job well. It might be the best place and time to kick off your career. Accomplish your tasks and responsibilities well. Consult with your superiors on how you can do things and how you can improve on your output. You can give your suggestions at the same time. It will add to your value as an employee.

4) You should know how to build your network in your organization. According to studies, about 50% of the jobs being landed by the employees are from contact networks. So, you should learn how to mingle and interact. It is one of the best opportunities as well, and it can help you discover new skills, new interests or explore new trends.

5) Another career advice that you should take seriously is that, you should know how to prepare yourself. Your dream might be coming to your doorsteps, but what if you are not ready? Be prepared always. Do not waste time: every second count.

6)      Equip yourself with the right tools. If your dream job requires you to have a higher degree, study a master degree. Choose a tool that you can handle well when getting your dream career. Do not push yourself or do not pressure yourself too much. Remember that your current job, is most of the time, a valuable source new knowledge and skills.

Shane, what is this Now What?® process about?

The Now What?® Process!

When I talk with people about Now What?®, they often ask me, “Shane, what is this Now What?® process about?”.  I explain that it is a structured and guided process to help you connect with one of your greatest gifts – your gift of intuition.  Some people smile and ask me to tell them more and others look at me with a puzzling look on their face.  I hope the following can help illustrate more deeply what and where the Now What?® process comes from and how it can help you or someone you care about make a positive change in their life direction.

THE PROGRAM

Why struggle to figure out on your own what you should be doing with your life? It’s one of life’s toughest questions. Why not have a trained guide, your own sherpa, if you will, to guide you to who you really are and what you are meant to do with your life?  In a very concrete, practical program, you will be led out of the confusion or indecision and find a clear direction for your future. Armed with “Now What? 90 Days to a New Life Direction” by Laura Berman Fortgang, and it’s accompanying workbook and Shane Fielder-your own Authorized Life Blueprint® Facilitator, you will be guided to find what’s next for you and come up with a plan on how to get there.  Working together, we will work the program for approximately 3 months. Clarity and direction will be the result.

THE LIFE BLUEPRINT® PHILOSOPHY

Years of working with people one-on-one gave Laura Berman Fortgang, the author of “NOW WHAT? 90 Days to a New Life Direction” and the founder of the Life Blueprint Institute unique insight into what makes people happiest and feel most fulfilled in their work (and life). Often a mystery to the individual, Laura recognized that the answers were embedded in them as an imprint on their soul. She named this the Life Blueprint®. In essence, she discovered that supporting people to realize who they truly are will yield clarity, direction and purpose. Most of the time, it is the individual’s burden to unearth the blueprint over the course of their life. With this program, the process can be accelerated and meaning, fulfillment, satisfaction and success can be available NOW.

IN 90 DAYS, YOU WILL:

  • Explore and get answers by working the twelve chapters from “NOW WHAT?”.
  • Break down barriers to clarity
  • Come to terms with change
  • Break through limiting mind sets
  • Learn how your past shows you clues to your future direction

Your New Career Path Starts Today!

Discover Your New Career Path for Your Life in Under 90 Days

Are you determined to search for your new career? You have come to the right place. Continue reading to know some tips on how to have a new career path that will change your life in only 90 days.

Discovering your career is an achievement. Many people are a slave of their work. Some might be working for decades but don’t like what they have been doing or are bored already. Some are working a particular job because they do not have a choice because if they do not work, they do not any have means to survive. More and more people are being tied up with their jobs that don’t make them happy.  In order for you to find the career you want, you have to make an effort. Dig around and know what is important to you.

Discovering your true calling is a skill. It is not being taught in the four corners of the classroom. Guidance counselors in your school during your early years as a student only focused on accessing your skills and matching it up with the appropriate career industry. This is a great help to some students. However, values and beliefs of some people change over time.  Your career dreams and goals when you were a high school student might change once you reach 30 years of age. For instance, your dream when you were a high school student was to become a great doctor. But when you reached 30 with family and kids, you might now want to choose a career where you can see your kids grow up.

If you really want to search for your new career, you must have solid values and beliefs. Then, throw in your talents and skills. An in-depth self-evaluation is advisable. Below are some questions that you can ask yourself in making a self-evaluation.

1)      What do you consider fulfilling?

2)      What are your priorities in life?

3)      What do you consider your life’s purpose?

4)      What interests you?

5)      What motivates you to do something?

6)      What can you contribute to the success of an organization?

7)      What are your skills, talents and abilities?

8)      Are you open to learning?

9)      Can you work alone or are you energized when you work with a group?

10)  Can you stand the uncertainty of your income if you are self-employed or you would need a steady income by being an employee?

11)  Do you enjoy working that allows you to have free time with your family and friends or you would want to work long hours in front of your computer?

12)  Do you like to work at home or commute everyday?

13)  Can you accept adjustments or you would want to stick with what you are used to do?

Having a new career is not that easy. It will not happen immediately. It needs your commitment, dedication and efforts. It is an investment. Life is too short to waste your time in a career that you hate. Make your move right now and don’t waste time.

I am able to use a proven, structured process to help you discover what’s next in your career progression. Clients are shocked to find out that we don’t need their resume to help them achieve greater clarity as to what their next career step or job direction should be. We are able in most cases to help a client gain clarity and create an action plan in under 90 days with our unique coaching process. I personally used the Now What?® coaching process back in 2004 to make a successful career change of my own and now I am helping other people make successful career change plans. I have over 15 years of experience in business management, training and leadership results.
